MOUNTAIN BIKING: Power Line Pass To Indian

← AK CHENA RIVER FAIRBANKS AK Single Tracks →

Description

Hillside Drive to Upper Huffman take a right and go to the Glen Alps Trailhead in the Chugach State Park. It is the most popular trail head in Alaska at the base of Flattop Mountain.

Directions

The trail is a combination of poorly maintained gravel road and single track that follows a gas pipeline. It is very rocky, prone to high winds and sudden weather changes. The trail starts off as a gradual mile long downhill and then flattens out for a while. The middle section is composed of rolling hills and two small creeks. The last 1 1/2 miles is a grueling rock strewn uphill that progressively gets steeper. At the top of the pass there is an awesome view of the valley and Powerline Pass. People can choose to continue down the other side to the town of Indian a long the Seward HWY but you will need to have a ride arranged to pick you up or ride the HWY back into town. You will also need very good brakes and riding skills, this part is VERY STEEP and FAST. And should only be attempted by people who know what they are doing and who are fully insured! It is approximately 6 miles to the top of the pass and another 2 miles or so to the town of Indian.
